Quarterly fuel tax rates for the third quarter of 2026

Diesel rates per US gallon for July 1 to September 30, 2026, jurisdiction by jurisdiction. Each row was read from that jurisdiction's own agency, in its rate table for the quarter or its notice of the rate for its fuel use return, and is linked with the date it was checked. Jurisdictions whose own rate could not be read that way are listed as not yet covered instead of being guessed, and a surcharge is shown in its own column, never folded into the rate.

Rates as each jurisdiction published them for this quarter, checked on October 14, 2026. Rates change and published rates are sometimes corrected, so the source beside each row is the place to confirm a figure. Rates only; nothing here says what to file or pay. The calculator runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

JurisdictionDieselRead fromCAILNYPAOnly base rates go to the worksheet
One row per jurisdiction, each read from its own agency's published rate and dated.

Every rate is in US dollars per US gallon, as the jurisdiction's own agency prints it for this quarter. A surcharge is listed in its own column only where that source shows one; it is never part of the base rate, and the worksheet does not compute surcharges.

Not yet covered

These member jurisdictions have not been read from their own agency's published rate for this quarter yet. Missing means not checked yet; it is not a rate of zero.

Fill the worksheet with these rates

Open the quarterly fuel tax worksheet with this table's diesel rates in its rate box. Only the base rates go in the box, every one of them shows there and can be changed, and jurisdictions that are not covered here are left for you to add. The worksheet does not compute surcharges.

Tax for one jurisdiction

Net taxable gallons (taxable gallons minus gallons purchased there) times the row's rate, rounded half away from zero to the cent. Gallons are used as typed, up to 3 decimals. Surcharges are not included.

Rates only: this page does not say what is owed or what to file. Mathproven is not affiliated with any agency or organization whose table is cited here.

A result that fails a check is marked not verified. It is never shown as correct.

How it works

  1. Find the jurisdiction. Type a name or two-letter code in the filter, or scroll the table. Each row shows the diesel rate per gallon, any surcharge in its own column, the source it was read from, and the date it was checked.
  2. Open the source. Each row links the jurisdiction's own published rate for the quarter, so the figure can be confirmed there.
  3. Work one jurisdiction. Pick a jurisdiction and enter its taxable gallons and the gallons purchased there. Net taxable gallons times the row's rate is shown with its checks, rounded half away from zero to the cent.
  4. Fill the worksheet. The link to the quarterly fuel tax worksheet fills its rate box with this table's base rates. Every rate shows in the box and can be changed, and jurisdictions not covered here are left for you to add.

Worked example

A made-up quarter for one truck in New York: 1,237 taxable gallons (its New York miles divided by its fleet miles per gallon) and 1,000 gallons purchased in New York, at the New York diesel rate in this table.

JurisdictionTaxable gallonsGallons purchasedNet taxable gallonsRate per gallonTax
New York (NY)1,2371,000237$0.3805$90.18

Net taxable gallons are 1,237 - 1,000 = 237, and 237 gallons at $0.3805 is $90.1785, which rounds half away from zero to $90.18. The cross-multiplication check accepts $90.18 and no other cent, so the certificate passes.

The example uses made-up names and numbers.

Questions

Why is a jurisdiction missing?

A row is added only after that jurisdiction's own agency's published rate for this quarter's fuel use return has been opened and read. The others are listed under Not yet covered with the reason, instead of being filled in from a general excise page, a summary site, or memory. Missing means not checked yet; it is not a rate of zero.

Does the worksheet add a surcharge?

No. A surcharge is worked on taxable gallons, not on net taxable gallons, so it cannot come out of the worksheet's arithmetic. The table shows it in its own column with its source, and only the base rate goes into the worksheet's rate box.

How current are these rates?

Each row shows the day its source was checked, October 14, 2026 for this table. A jurisdiction can correct a published rate after the quarter starts, so the linked source is the place to confirm a figure.

How is the tax rounded?

Gallons are used as typed, up to 3 decimals. The tax is net taxable gallons times the rate, rounded half away from zero to the cent with whole-number math, the same rule the worksheet uses.

Is this a return or a list of what is owed?

No. It lists rates per gallon as each jurisdiction published them for the quarter and does the arithmetic on them. It does not say what is owed to anyone or what to file.
