Free bank reconciliation template

Type how many rows each list needs and, if you like, the account or business name and the statement date. The page builds an Excel workbook laid out for a bank reconciliation: a reconciliation sheet with the lines of both sides, an outstanding checks sheet, a deposits in transit sheet, an adjustments sheet, and an instructions sheet. The finished file is read back and checked before it downloads.

The workbook is built in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded.

One workbook: both sides of the reconciliation and the lists behind them.

Each number of rows is from 1 to 200. Bank correction rows and book adjustment rows go on one sheet, Adjustments, and arrive marked Bank or Book. The name goes only into the workbook you download.

What the workbook will hold

The workbook is a layout to fill in. It holds values only and has no formulas, so it does not calculate. The bank reconciliation tool opens the filled-in workbook, works out the adjusted bank balance and the adjusted book balance, compares them to the cent, and shows the checks it ran.

What gets checked

Your numbersThe mathThe checksVerifiedNot verified
A result that fails a check is marked not verified. It is never shown as correct.

How it works

  1. Answer the questions. Type the number of rows for outstanding checks, deposits in transit, bank corrections, and book adjustments, from 1 to 200 each. The account or business name and the statement date are optional.
  2. Build the workbook. The Excel file is put together in the browser, read back to confirm its sheets, lines, and rows, and downloaded.
  3. Fill it in. Enter the statement ending balance and the book balance on the Reconciliation sheet, list the outstanding checks and the deposits in transit, and put each bank correction or book adjustment on the Adjustments sheet with Add or Subtract. The instructions sheet explains each sheet.
  4. Calculate with the tool. The template does not calculate. The bank reconciliation tool opens the filled-in workbook, works out the adjusted bank balance and the adjusted book balance, shows the difference to the cent, compares any totals written in by hand with its own, and shows its checks.

Worked example

For Example Supply Co. with a statement date of 2026-03-31, 10 outstanding check rows, 5 deposit in transit rows, 3 bank correction rows, and 5 book adjustment rows, the workbook has these sheets.

The Reconciliation sheet arrives with Example Supply Co. and 2026-03-31 filled in and every amount blank. On the Adjustments sheet, rows 1 to 3 are marked Bank and rows 4 to 8 are marked Book. Every other cell on the three list sheets is empty, and all 23 read-back checks pass.

The example uses made-up names and numbers.

Questions

Does the template add up the reconciliation?

No. It is a layout with values only and no formulas. The bank reconciliation tool on this site does the calculating: it opens the filled-in workbook, works out the adjusted bank balance and the adjusted book balance, compares them to the cent, and shows the difference.

What is the built-in check?

Two things. Before the download starts, the finished file is read back in the browser and compared with what was asked for, and a file that fails is not downloaded. After the workbook is filled in, the bank reconciliation tool on this site opens it, adds every list twice, and compares any totals written in by hand with its own.

Is it really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no limit on how many templates are built.

What happens to numbered rows left empty?

Nothing. A numbered row with nothing else typed in it is skipped when the workbook is opened in the bank reconciliation tool, and so is a row on the Adjustments sheet that holds only its Bank or Book mark. A row with a description and no amount is listed there as a row that could not be read.

Can rows be added later?

Yes. Add rows under the last one on any of the three list sheets. On the Adjustments sheet, type Bank or Book in the Side column of an added row. The row counts asked for here only set how many numbered rows the workbook starts with.

Is this an official form?

No. It is our own layout in generic terms: statement ending balance, outstanding checks, deposits in transit, bank corrections, book balance, and book adjustments. It makes no statement about what any rule, standard, or agreement requires.

Is the name I type uploaded?

No. The workbook is built in this browser tab, and the name goes only into the file you download. Nothing typed here is kept after the page is closed.

This tool calculates and checks numbers. It is not legal, tax, or medical advice.
