Statement rows to Excel or CSV, with a certificate

Open the CSV or Excel export from a bank or card account, or paste the rows of a statement. The columns are matched from the header words and can be changed. Type the opening and closing balances, or let them come from the running balance column, and the tool checks that the rows add up to the statement before you download the table.

The file is read in your browser and stays on this device. Nothing is uploaded. This tool reads rows (CSV, Excel, or pasted text); it does not read PDF files or scans.

An export becomes one clean table that ties to the statement.
1. Statement rows

Or paste rows copied from a statement or spreadsheet, with a header row first (for example Date, Description, Amount, Balance):

A result that fails a check is marked not verified. It is never shown as correct.

How it works

  1. Open the rows. Drop a .csv or .xlsx export from the bank or card account, or paste rows copied from a statement with a header row first. The rows are read in the browser. PDF files and scans are not read.
  2. Check the columns. Date, description, amount (or separate money out and money in columns), and running balance are matched from the header words. Every choice can be changed, along with the header row, whether dates are month first or day first, and whether the signs are flipped.
  3. Enter the balances. Type the opening and closing balances from the statement, or leave them blank to use the running balance column. Summary totals and the statement period are optional and are checked when typed.
  4. Convert and download. The transactions are put in date order and checked against the balances. Download the table as Excel or CSV with the certificate, or print it.

Worked example

A made-up March export with a running balance column. The opening balance of $1,200.00 and the closing balance of $3,953.33 are typed from the statement, along with its summary: 2 deposits totaling $3,750.00 and 4 withdrawals totaling $996.67.

DateDescriptionAmountBalance
03/02/2026PAYROLL DEPOSIT EXAMPLE CO2500.003700.00
03/03/2026CARD PURCHASE HARDWARE STORE-48.273651.73
03/05/2026CHECK 1042-800.002851.73
03/09/2026ACH DEPOSIT CLIENT INVOICE 1181250.004101.73
03/16/2026ELECTRIC UTILITY PAYMENT-136.403965.33
03/31/2026MONTHLY SERVICE FEE-12.003953.33

Money in is $3,750.00 and money out is $996.67, a net of $2,753.33. $1,200.00 + $2,753.33 = $3,953.33, the closing balance. All six running balances match, the deposit and withdrawal totals and counts match the summary, and the table read back totals $2,753.33 and ends at $3,953.33. All 12 checks pass.

The example uses made-up names and numbers.

Questions

Does it read PDF statements or scans?

No. It reads rows: a .csv or .xlsx export from the bank, or rows copied from a statement or spreadsheet into the box on the page. Most banks offer a CSV or Excel download next to the PDF statement.

Which bank layouts does it read?

Any export with a header row. Layouts differ between banks and change over time, so the tool does not assume one: it matches header words, shows its choices, and every column can be changed. When a column cannot be identified, the page says which one and links to a form for requesting support for that format.

What if my export has no running balance column?

Type the opening and closing balances from the statement. The check that opening balance plus transactions equals closing balance works the same way; only the row-by-row running balance check is left out.

What happens when the numbers do not tie?

The certificate shows which check failed and by how much, for example a closing balance that is off by the amount of a missing row. The table can still be downloaded, but only after a confirmation, and the file name is marked UNVERIFIED.

Can it handle a credit card export?

Yes. Choose credit card as the account. Positive amounts are then charges and negative amounts are payments and credits, and the check is previous balance plus activity equals new balance. If the export shows charges as negative numbers, flip the signs in the column mapping.
